虹の橋を渡る数日前、大好きな裏庭で

Gracie, our older girl earned her wings on April 13, 2020, just after this pandemic has started. She was 17. I still have a hard time to look photos of her fainal days. 

Gracie loved to greet people, to be petted and she was a some foodie. 

One Thanksgiving Day, we roasted turkey. When the bird was done and put on the table, Gracie ran towards the turkey as fast as she can and placed her both paws on the side of the table. She was so cute and funny. We laughe so much. 

今日は、長女猫グレイシーの2回目の命日です

パンデミックが始まってすぐに、急に具合が悪くなって、ひと月たらずで虹の橋を渡ってしまいました 　17歳でした

最後のほうの写真は、今もまだ見るのが辛いです

おっとりしてて、物怖じせず、美味しいものに目がなかったグレイシー

ある年の感謝祭、焼きあがったターキーに向かって全速力で走ってきて、身体を伸ばしてテーブルに両手をかけて・・・今思い出してもおかしくなります

無料でいれてくれた土

It's the time of Fucsia Saturday at Fred Meyer!

I bought one large resin pot, several annual plants and three cherry tomato plants for over $70. Store staff will fill your pots with Black Gold potting soil, including pots you brought from home. That is nice. 

Pre-Pandemic, store staff planted purchased plants as you wish then filled with soil. 

What you needed were: bring your pot(s), purchase plants, let staff do planting work, drive home and hang your flower basket. 

No wonder this event has been very popular.  04-09-2022

今年もフクシャ・サタデーの季節がやってきました

大きなレジン製のポットをひとつ、一年草の苗をやまほど、トマトの苗を３つ買って、締めて70ドルちょっと

袋にはいった園芸用の土はそれほど高価ではないので、トントンなのかもしれないけど

こうやっていれてくれれば、あとは苗を植えるだけなので、お得感があります

苗さえ買えば、自分の家から持ってきたポットにも土を入れてくれるので

６つで5ドルのセールになっているフクシャの小さな苗＊を買えば、たったの5ドルでハンギングバスケットが出来上がります　（＊スターターなのでまだ花はついていません）

パンデミック前は、苗を植えこんでから土を入れてくれたので、後は家に持って帰って飾るだけでした

A Bird Hunter

この写真の中に猫がいます

I found a neighbor cat sitting on our backyard fence, probably watching birds. 

This one is a regular visitor at our yard. Very cute. 

Today, a squirrel was running on the fence toward the cat, noticed it and froze.

No confrontation is necessary, so the squirrel run down from the fence to avoid the cat. 
Animal world is way more reasonable and peaceful than ours.

どこの子かわかりませんが、時々、ここに座ってます

たぶん野鳥を狙ってるんでしょう

今日は、反対側からリスが走ってきて、猫に気がついて、ピタッと静止

しばらく固まった後、フェンスの反対側へ降りていきました

動物界は、無益な衝突もなく、平和です

Apple Blossom

I love apple blossoms. When we purchased our first house (=current house), I wanted to plant an apple tree in my yard. Unfortunately, our backyard doesn't get enough sun and have enough space for an apple tree to spread its branches. So I gave up. 

Our neighbor had a different ideas. He liked to cram all kinds of flowering trees and fruit trees in his also small shady yard. When he and his family moved out early this year, his columnar apple tree was left behind. 

Now I can enjoy beauty of apple blossoms without my annoying neighbor.

大好きなりんごの花

家を買った時、一番植えたかったけれど、うちの庭は日当たりのよい場所があまりなく、これ以上日陰を作りたくないので、残念だけどあきらめた

後から越してきた、園芸オタクではた迷惑だった隣人は、うちと隣接するわずかな陽当たりのよい地面に、ほとんど無理やり、直立タイプのりんごの木を植えた　

そんな彼らは、年明け早々に引っ越し、りんごの木は今もある

鬱陶しかった隣人がいない今年は、りんごの花の愛らしさを素直に楽しめる

Red Flowering Currant

Red flowering currant is native to Pacific Northwest and Canada.

Nector of its tiny pink flowers is hummingbird's favorite and important meal for hummers in early spring. 

I'm wanting to add this beauty to my sun-dappled backyard... question is when...?

裏庭にあったらいいなぁ、と思っているのが、このハナスグリ （Red Flowering Currant）

米国北部とカナダ原産で、春に咲く、可愛い小さなピンクの花に、ハミングバードがやってきます

陽当たりも、木漏れ日程度で育つとあるので、我が家の裏庭にぴったり

いつご縁が巡ってくるかなぁ・・・
