Several years ago, I found YouTube videos that are showing beautiful Tancho Cranes in Kushiro, Hokkaido, Japan.
Immediately, I fell in love with their elegant courtship dances and their distinct beautiful loud calls that echoed throughout snow covered field.
I thought: well, I probably won't have a chance to visit such a farthest location in Hokkaido because I return Japan only once per year or less.
Well, I was wrong. I found and grabbed a chance to see Tancho Cranes "in bird."
I'm so glad I did.

函館から遥か東の釧路まで足を延ばしたのは、タンチョウヅルに会うためでした
数年前、YouTubeの動画で見た、冬の釧路湿原に集まるタンチョウヅル
雪景色の中、求愛のダンスをする優雅な姿と雪の平原に響き渡る独特の鳴き声
あまりの美しさに、いろんな動画を繰り返し見続けずにはいられませんでした
その時は、日本のこんな最果ての地まで行って丹頂を見るチャンスなんて、きっと私には巡ってこないだろう、とほぼ諦めていました
でも、チャンスはありました
タンチョウヅルに会いたいという私の夢が叶った、幸せな日でした
